Enjoy public transportation

Traffic is famously getting worse in big cities around the world, and its impacts are numerous. Not only are traffic jams a waste of time, but outdoor air pollution is also considered a "major environmental risk to health" linked to more than 3 million premature deaths worldwide every year.

Air pollution contributes to lung cancer, asthma, and other respiratory diseases, and it has been associated with heart disease and stroke. Research has showed that cars waiting in traffic jams or at red lights contain up to 40 % more pollution than those that are moving and that drivers stuck at traffic lights were exposed up to 29 times more harmful pollution particles than those driving in free flowing traffic. Researchers are also starting to notice links between traffic and negative mental health outcomes, including stress and aggression.

Luckily, it’s easy to stay out of traffic: opt for public transportation! Instead of getting nervous and angry behind the wheel, spend your time relaxing with an interesting book or listening to some music you like! It’ll make time go by faster, increase your well-being and contribute to a better air in your city!
